When I first dove into Brandi Little's debut novel, I expected a straight forward romance. It's labeled as a Christian fiction romance, after all. But much to my surprise, One Step Forward offers a little bit of everything--romance, grief, design, suspense, friendship, and faith. Read below for more about this breathtaking novel...
Last century mansion renovations, prestigious financial firms, and cozy mornings waking up with a cup of coffee--these are the walls of Brandi's book. Hadley lives in a small town in Michigan with a job renovating and redecorating people's historic homes to restore them to their former glory. Meanwhile, Aaron Kingsley, in his red Corvette and deep pockets, is the next in line to take over his family's lucrative financial business. But the simple and coffee-filled lifestyle Hadley leads within the walls of her own home and the gentle romance between both Hadley and Aaron give this book all the cozy and homey vibes even amidst the suspenseful plot.
Hadley Lockett is an interior designer in charge of her own business. She surrounds herself with a small group of close friends and acts like her life is just the way she wants it. On the outside, she's perfectly happy. But inside, she's still struggling with healing from the pain and loss that taints her past. When she meets Aaron Kingsley, an all-too-handsome client who hires her for her dream job, she's also given what looks to be a second chance at love. But each step forward in her fragile relationship with Aaron brings the secrets of her past closer to the surface, and with those secrets, danger she never knew existed.
One Step Forward was such a refreshing read for me. I sat down to read a romance, but was thrown into a world with everything from HGTV style home design to edge-of-your-seat suspense. And Brandi's Christian faith was tactfully and beautifully woven throughout it all. I felt myself latching on to Hadley's story as if it were my own and fell hopelessly in love with Aaron before even Hadley herself did. The suspense kept me turning the page, the romance made me swoon, and the interior design gave me the itch to renovate my entire home. Read this book. You won't regret it. In the meantime, I'll be reading her second book while waiting for her third to release soon!
